KAZE NO CHO
 1992

Photography by Asuka Kobayashi 1992 SU-EN Butoh Company

SU-EN's maiden performance (Hata-age-koen in Japanese). This perfomance was produced and created with firm and generous support by Tomoe Shizune and Tomoe Shizune & Hakutobo. Performed in 1992 at Tiny Alice Theatre in Tokyo.

SU-EN was also supported by three dancers from Tomoe Shizune & Hakutobo and Gnome. Other Tomoe Shizune & Hakutobo members were supporting with light, sound and stage design.

The performance depicted a feminine and barren landscape, a place somewhere at the bottom of the mountain. Kaze no Cho means the Butterfly of the wind, something that is so light but still can navigate through the wind. using the resistance, it find its way.

SU-EN Butoh Company is forever grateful for the generosity of Tomoe Shizune & Hakutobo and consider this as the artistic starting point for the company. SU-EN is forever grateful for all the years of being able to follow the work and wish to cherish Tomoe Shizune, Yokos Ashikawa and all the dancers of Hakutobo.
