KINJIKI - forbidden colours
50 years anniversary
On May 24, 2009, it is 50 years since the dancer Tatsumi Hijikata made his scandalous performance Kinjiki - forbidden colours in Tokyo. The performance was based on Mishima's book and was concerned with homosexual love, a taboo in those days.
After this performance Hijikata was expelled from the Modern Dance community in Tokyo and thus started to create his own Ankoku Butoh. Ankoku Butoh was to revolutionize the dance scene and is today an interational art form using the name butoh.
Celebrations will occur in many places around the world.
SU-EN Butoh Company wishes to dedicate all performances this year to this celebration. In January SU-EN will also take part in a seminar
in Tokyo regarding this topic.
